When our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence they knew that they had risked everything. They understood the responsibility of governing a nation and pledged to each other their “lives, fortunes, and sacred honor”. Once the revolution was over and they were tasked with creating a nation, they understood the importance of protecting the right of citizens to defend themselves.
I believe that the Second Amendment is fundamental to who we are as a nation and as a state. It is not rooted in hunting or sport, but in the right to defend our lives, families, and property. It has been a part of the American identity since before we were a nation and it must be protected from a federal government that wants to regulate every aspect of our lives. I am an unapologetic supporter of the right to keep and bear arms and will do everything I can to protect it in the state legislature.
